Ruderi di Bugnano
Another outing in 2021 – No we aren’t house hunting, but have been on one of my unusual days out!
Visiting Ruins.
The plan was to find a deserted village in a wood named ‘Ruderi di Bugnano’.
It took a bit of finding, following a Google search from a facebook link. A stepped ‘roadway’/ track by a church, leads down the steep side of a mountain into the wood, passing an apparently inhabited house. We wondered at first if we were trespassing, but it seems not.
Eventually reaching stone walls, derelict buildings, and then what was obviously the centre of the village.
Apparently it was abandoned some time after WW2. The houses are derelict and many cordoned off for safety.
All steeply downhill so we got more exercise than we planned for, especially on the way back.
The spray painters have moved in, although, it seems quite apt, as part of the village history.
Several days later we came across another derelict property, which must have been an extremely grand villa in its day, but appeared to be off the beaten track for such a property.
Customs House of Campo Buriano, Tereglio
Googling reveals that it was originally built as a stopover Palace for Maria Luisa of Bourbon along the Modena – Lucca Road. When this route became less used, the Palace began to decline, later becoming a hospital for frail children (suffering anaemia and TB), until 1943 (WW2). Since then it has fallen into dereliction and suffered looting.
