This is our local town with main amenities and our administrative commune.
Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is 20 minutes by car. It is the main town in the locality and has everything required for daily living.
Supermarkets, numerous restaurants and cafes, police station, hospital and other services, swimming pool and sports area.
Market day is Thursday, and gets extremely busy during the summer, and takes up the whole of the town.
The cathedral (or Duomo) of St. Peter & St. Paul with its bell tower is at the centre of the town, along with numerous churches in the various districts.
There is a museum to visit.
The centre of the town is within a fortified town wall. Outside the walls are older style buildings town buildings, with further modern buildings extending outwards.
The river Serchio runs through the centre, and is used by ENEL for producing hydroelectric power. Therefore it is not safe to get too close, as water surges preceeded by a siren occur from time to time to maintain water levels.
Teatro Alfieri, the Theatre has been recently renovated, and puts on regular events.
There is a railway station which is on the country line between Aulla and Lucca.
There is also a bus station, with a twice daily, return route from Castelnuovo to Carregine. The request stop is less than two minutes from Casa Gialla.
The Community often puts on public events. Notably Settimana, which takes place during August. A week of different events, which stretch late into the evenings.
This is usually followed by a visit from a fair.
